You don�t want to take your scooter out until you know what to do in most major scenarios that could spell trouble.

When you buy your scooter, look over the accompanying booklet or package directions that tell you how to operate it. You may be able to find helpful information on battery maintenance, air pressure for the tires, and other useful details. If not, visit the manufacturer�s website to see what type of guidelines are offered there for new scooter owners. You also can check at the store where your purchased the scooter to see if there are brochures or verbal suggestions that can help you get used to your new motorized equipment.

Always ride your scooter solo. Don�t try to take along a passenger, since the scooter isn�t made to carry more than one person at a time. Doing tricks like dragging an attached skate boarder or someone in a wagon isn�t a good idea, since the motor isn�t strong enough to handle this type of load and will most likely soon give out. Don�t try forcing a second or third person on the scooter for fun or tricks, as this will cause the driver to lose control and probably lead to an accident.

Follow prevailing scooter laws. If you don�t know what these are, get in touch with the Highway Patrol or Department of Transportation for information. The driver�s license bureau or local Automobile Association also are good sources for road laws and driving guidelines. You also might want to browse electric scooter chat rooms or discussion boards on the Internet to learn more about motorized scooter driving in general, along with scooter care and driver safety.

Use any pertinent driver safety equipment, like a helmet, for example, when you drive on public roads. Use the part of the road or sidewalk that you�re supposed to, and stay off the areas that are prohibited for scooter use. Avoid congested traffic areas if possible to prevent traffic snarls or increased risk. Don�t try to do show-off tricks like riding without hands to impress others. Make sure your scooter is in road condition when you take it out in public.

Electric scooters are just smaller versions of cars, in many ways, so it�s a good idea to become familiar with all the electric workings that make it run, since any of these could go wrong at any time. Keep the owner�s manual with you when using the scooter, along with personal identification information, and an insurance card, if pertinent. Treat your scooter with the care and respect it deserves to make sure you reach each destination safely.

The most important thing to do is regular oil changes for four stroke engines. Two stroke engines consume their engine oil, so you don't have to worry about changing it. Our scooters only hold about a quart of engine oil. The bigger Yamaha scooters have oil filters, but the Hondas do not have filters (just a small screen). Given the small displacement (engine size) of most scooters, they tend to get run hard. The small amount of oil, lack of oil filter and high rpm usage leads to oil breakdown much quicker than your in automobile. I change my scooter oil every 1000 miles. This may sound extreme, but consider two points: How long does it take you to go 1000 miles? Unless you are riding a 250cc scoot on the highway, it will probably take you a few months. It's not like you need to change it every week. If you are putting on a lot of highway miles, the engine is probably not being stressed with a lot of stop-and-go riding. You also are less likely to run the engine through a lot of hot/cold cycles. In this case you may be able to extend the oil change time. But I wouldn't :>)

Next up the line, you should get a performance carb and/or a new exhaust pipe. You'll need to replace these two components (and probably the air box) at the same time to get the best performance increase. The engine is basically just an air pump. The more air you can move through the engine, the more power you get. Adding a bigger carb draws more air (and more fuel) into the engine. But you restrict the amount of added air if you don't change the air box. You also restrict the amount of air out of the engine if you don't replace the exhaust pipe with a bigger (or more free flowing) exhaust pipe. In addition, just changine the carb changes the fuel / air ratio inside the engine. Your engine may or may not like the change. For instance, the new carb could give you more top end power, but also lead to starting problems. Or it may run better at low RPM's and poor at high RPM's. Tuning for best performance can be a lot of work! Try to buy a kit (carb, air box, exhaust pipe) that is tuned for your scooter. It will make things much easier. Lastly, add the big bore kit. This will give you more torque (pulling power) and better acceleation, but it won't necessarily add top speed unless you make gearing changes. For larger scooters, there aren't too many performance parts available here in the U.S. (except for some of the newer scooters). The easiest thing is to do a web search for "scooter performance parts" and see what you find. Otherwise, you can try:
Replacing your worn drive belt. This will give you a few more MPH because a new belt rides higher in the pulleys. Changing your roller weights (you can use just a slightly heavier rollers for more top speed). Adjusting your valves. Installing a new air filter, change the oil, put in a new spark plug. Keeping your tires at proper inflation levels. This also helps you get better mileage and prevent premature tire wear.

Next, you'll have to remove the carburetor and clean it. There are a low of tiny fuel and air passageways in the carb that must be clean it order for your scooter to run right. Carefully take the carb apart. This can be relative easy (on a 50cc scooter) or quite difficult (a Riva 180-200 has limited carb access and 8 separate hoses running to the carb). The carb has tiny passages that get gummed up. The scooter just will not run correctly if the carb is not completely clean, so take your time. I use a gallon container of carb dip (you can get a gallon at your local auto supply store for ~$10).

Got spark? First check for spark. There are a few ways to do this. The easiest way is to remove the spark plug and put it back in the spark plug cap. Then ground it to the engine - you should be able to lay it against a non-painted portion of the engine. Make sure there is good metal-to-metal contact. In a semi darkened area, attempt to start the scooter. You should see a definite spark at the tip of the spark plug. It's hard to see in direct light. If the color of the spark is blue, that means it's a strong spark. A white color is less strong, and a yellow color is weak. Most scooter starting systems are a bit weak (compared to cars). Even a yellow spark should start your scooter just fine. Next, the spark must occur at the right time. Just about all scooters made since around 1980 have electonic ignition. These systems rarely can be set. This is good news. After working on maybe 50 scooters, I've never seen one go out of time. Scooters with points are another matter. You'll have to follow the timing procedure in the manual to get the timing correct. In general, the spark occurs just before the piston reaches the top of it's stroke. There is a slight delay between the spark plug fire and the fuel-air mixture ignition. That's why the spark occurs a little early. Most ignition systems have an advance unit build in, so that as the engine speeds up the time of the spark retards a little bit and helps the engine fire the mixture at the proper time.

If you have an electric choke, check it to make sure it works. Check the resistance between the wires - you should see around 10 ohms or less. Measure the length of the choke assembly. Remove the choke from the carb and plug the wires into a 12V source for 15 minutes. The choke body should be warm. Measure the length again - it should increase by around 1/8".

My Schwinn Stealth 1000 Electric Scooter Saves Money, Is Easy to Use, Cheap & Great For Environment

If you are an adult who wants to save gas money doing local errands and short local trips under 10 miles round-trip, you might want to consider using an electric scooter, a cheap, hassle free , excellent method of transportation that helps the environment too. I use the Schwinn Stealth 1000 Electric Scooter (Schwinn S-1000) which is perfect for me. Licenses are not required in most places for the Schwinn S-1000 (though I would check locally) and about the only thing you really need is a helmet and to weigh under 250 pounds.

I am a total clutz and the S-1000 is incredibly easy to use as the balance is so good and the ride is super comfortable. It took me 1 hour of practice in an empty lot and I've ridden the scooter ever since, easy as pie. Believe it or not, I prefer to ride in the street in the bike lanes where the ground is smooth rather then going over the cracking sidewalks. The scooter goes up to 15 miles per hour and you can go as far as 15 miles with it till the battery is empty, though I think 10 miles is a more reasonable expectation. Charging the battery is super easy as you just use a small charger connected to any electric outlet in your home and connect it to your scooter. Takes about 10 seconds to plug in and about 6 hours to charge. The battery lasts about 6 months, and costs about $125 for a new one and is very easy to put in requiring no mechanical skills.

What I like about the Schwinn Stealth 1000 Electric Scooter is it's cheap, around $400 or so- it will probably cost you $50 for a bike place to put it together, and requires little maintenance primarily because of its direct drive system. I had an earlier Schwinn Electric Scooter with a Cable drive system, and the cables kept getting tangled up and it was costing me $75 a pop to fix. With the Schwinn S-1000, after about 8 months, I've had no repairs or maintenance charges, which I attribute to its direct drive system.

I would recommend you get your local bike shop to put a small basket on the back of the scooter if you do errands because I don't believe Schwinn Electric Scooters still come with baskets. Most of the time, because the balance of the Stealth 1000 is so good, I just put any packages on the front part of the floorboard where they seem to balance perfectly.

For local travel, the Schwinn Stealth 1000 is the greatest thing since sliced bread too me.

Gas scooters are more advantageous over cars and motorcycles in terms of efficiency and convenience. The gas tank of most gas scooters use only a fraction of the expense needed to keep a car tank full. Some gas scooters even have an extra storage compartment, thus making it suitable for running local errands. Gas scooters are not only fuel efficient, but also quite cheap. The most expensive gas scooter costs much less than motorcycles and economy cars. Not only that, the insurance requirement for gas scooters is less restrictive than the equivalent liability coverage for cars and motorcycles. The reason for this is that the gas scooter cannot go at high speeds, thus lowering the probability of an accident occurring.

The most important thing to do is regular oil changes for four stroke engines. Two stroke engines consume their engine oil, so you don't have to worry about changing it. Our scooters only hold about a quart of engine oil. The bigger Yamaha scooters have oil filters, but the Hondas do not have filters (just a small screen). Given the small displacement (engine size) of most scooters, they tend to get run hard. The small amount of oil, lack of oil filter and high rpm usage leads to oil breakdown much quicker than your in automobile. I change my scooter oil every 1000 miles. This may sound extreme, but consider two points: How long does it take you to go 1000 miles? Unless you are riding a 250cc scoot on the highway, it will probably take you a few months. It's not like you need to change it every week. If you are putting on a lot of highway miles, the engine is probably not being stressed with a lot of stop-and-go riding. You also are less likely to run the engine through a lot of hot/cold cycles. In this case you may be able to extend the oil change time. But I wouldn't :>)

My Idle Runs Too High. This could be due to a throttle cable that is too tight or misrouted. It could also mean you need to turn the idle screw on the carb counterclockwise 1/4 turn. A high idle may be due to a vacuum leak. The rubber manifold between the carb and the cylinder head can crack over time. Try starting the engine and squirting some water around the carb, manifold, and vacuum hoses. If the idle decreases, you have a vacuum leak somewhere.

The unburned fuel/oil mixture builds up in the exhaust pipe along with carbon over time. If the exhaust pipe is clogged, your scooter will run terribly or not at all. If you are skillful at doing your own repairs then going with an older scooter could benefit you if the repairs aren't to disastrous. This could be a good summer project if you have the time, and mechanical know how other wise if you want something that is worry free driving and more modern then definitely go with a newer one. But brand name scooters, like Honda, hold up well even when used. You will definitely be paying a lot more for a new scooter, but if you need it for a reliable ride then it will be a good investment.

Other things to consider when purchasing a scooter is the size/power that you will need. If you need to drive it on the freeway you will definitely need to speak to your local motor vehicle department about certain laws for engine size allowed. Some scooters are able to go up to 80 mph which is really convenient for motorists who need to travel frequently. If you will be going up any hills or carrying passengers you will definitely want to go with more horsepower. Scooters with 300cc's or more are good for this purpose.

For purely recreational purposes, look at smaller motors. These are actually much cheaper anyway, you can grab a quality ride for under $300. These usually max out around 30 mph. Scooters with 50 to 80cc's are perfect for this purpose.

This is just a small portion of information to help you choose the right scooter for you. Make sure to always inspect the credibility of any person or company that you plan on buying from.

What changes to I need for high altitude? This doesn't come up very often, but I though I'd throw it in anyway. At high altitudes (above ~4000 ft), your scooter will start starving for air. You'll need to place a smaller main jet in the carb, so that it will take in less fuel. A good rule of thumb is to reduce the size of the main jet by ~10% and see if that works.

The most important question is how much money do you want to spend. If you have a 50cc, and you want to increase the top speed from 25 mph -> 50 mph, you might be better off just buying a new scooter. As you increase the scooter's speed and acceleration, you will find the brakes, frame, and suspension are probably not up to the task. Replacing all of these parts is quite expensive. If you just want a bit of increase performance of your 50cc scooter, there are probably carb, exhaust pipe, and variator (gearing) changes you can make. You might be able to find a big bore kit, so that you can increase the engine displacement from 50cc up to around 70cc. In general, the easiest thing to do would be to add a performance clutch or performance variator. These should give you a little better acceleration and/or top speed.

Putting gas in your scooter is generally about a two-minute affair. Many of them hold only a few gallons, with some pretty outstanding fuel mpg ratings to go along with their tiny tanks. 1) Start at Froogle.com. This is Google's shopping search engine. Start by typing in 'electric scooter,' 'electric scooter sale,' or 'electric scooter discount.' You should find an impressive number of scooter retailers as a result. Write down the best prices and deals.

2) Search Google. Run the exact same searches, but instead of just paying attention to your results, pay attention to the ads. Vendors pay tons of money to place their pay per click ads on the side of these pages. The ads pop up based on key words. Visit these sits and write down their best deals as well.

3) Utilize Yahoo.com. Run the same searches on Yahoo's site, and you'll be surprised by the different yields compared to Google. Electric scooters come in all shapes and sizes. Today�s manufacturers have got the picture and are catering not only to the kids, but also to the older riders as well. With the vast difference in electric scooters, choosing the right one for your particular needs is paramount so that you don�t waste your money.

When choosing an electric scooter, you need to consider a few things first. Once you have taken into consideration these issues, you can make the right decision that best fits you.

Rider Weight: Electric scooters, though more powerful these days, will operate best while carrying the least amount of weight. The more weight that the scooter carries, the more the overall performance will diminish. Choose an electric scooter that can carry your weight plus an extra 50 lbs or more. For example; If the max weight capacity of the electric scooter in question is two-hundred and forty pounds and you weigh one-hundred and eighty pounds, then this is about perfect for your weight.

Average Distance: As goes with weight, the more weight the scooter carries, the less the max distance that the electric scooter will be able go. When choosing an electric scooter, look at the max distance rating. The max distance rating that is advertised is based on an average sized adult, usually one-hundred and thirty pounds, according to the manufacturer. Remember not to expect that max distance if you are a little heavier. Also, what they don�t tell you, that distance will be more determined on factors such as; riding conditions, hills, weather, and how much you use the throttle. A good rule of thumb is to take the max rated distance of say twenty-five miles per charge and realistically expect fifteen to twenty miles on a charge.

So determine which type of electric scooter you are going to purchase based on the average distance that you are going to be traveling between charges.

Actual Use: When looking at purchasing an electric scooter, think about what the scooter will be used for. Once you figure what the scooter will regularly be used for, you can decide which type is best for you. If you are going to be using it during pre-dawn or after dusk hours, then you want to consider getting one with a headlight. If you are going to be just cruising around town, the beach, the campground or your local college campus, then perhaps a two-in-one stand up type with an optional seat that folds down for easy storage would be a better bet. Whatever the type you choose, be sure to keep in mind safety.

As you can see, choosing the right electric scooter for you actually takes a little thought. Whatever you choose, remember the distance, weigh and use rules. Don�t get something that will not satisfy yourself as well as your needs.

Got spark? First check for spark. There are a few ways to do this. The easiest way is to remove the spark plug and put it back in the spark plug cap. Then ground it to the engine - you should be able to lay it against a non-painted portion of the engine. Make sure there is good metal-to-metal contact. In a semi darkened area, attempt to start the scooter. You should see a definite spark at the tip of the spark plug. It's hard to see in direct light. If the color of the spark is blue, that means it's a strong spark. A white color is less strong, and a yellow color is weak. Most scooter starting systems are a bit weak (compared to cars). Even a yellow spark should start your scooter just fine. Next, the spark must occur at the right time. Just about all scooters made since around 1980 have electonic ignition. These systems rarely can be set. This is good news. After working on maybe 50 scooters, I've never seen one go out of time. Scooters with points are another matter. You'll have to follow the timing procedure in the manual to get the timing correct. In general, the spark occurs just before the piston reaches the top of it's stroke. There is a slight delay between the spark plug fire and the fuel-air mixture ignition. That's why the spark occurs a little early. Most ignition systems have an advance unit build in, so that as the engine speeds up the time of the spark retards a little bit and helps the engine fire the mixture at the proper time.

Fuel/Air Mixture. The next thing to check is your fuel/air mixture. You could be getting too much or too little of either. If your scooter has been sitting for a while, it's likely that the gas has evaporated and left a bunch of sludgy deposits. If it's been more than 3 months, you should clean out the fuel system and the carb.

Try to buy a scooter performance kit (carb, air box, exhaust pipe) that is tuned for your scooter. It will make things much easier. Lastly, add the big bore kit. This will give you more torque (pulling power) and better acceleration. It won't necessarily add top speed unless you make gearing changes too. For larger scooters, there aren't too many performance parts available here in the U.S. The easiest thing is to do a web search for "scooter performance parts" and see what you can find.

Believe it or not, your Honda and Yamaha scoots do have a small transmission. It's hidden away in a small area near the rear wheel. Don't forget about the tranny oil! There is only about 200cc of oil here - a very small amount. Most scooters use standard high quality engine oil and some take gear oil. If your scooter takes engine oil, it should be changed fairly frequently. The gears put a lot of shear stress on the oil, reducing its effectiveness over time. It is definitely a pain to change this oil and add the new oil, but it must be done. If not, the oil will eventually turn to a thick dark, molasses like stuff. Your bearings and gears will be very unhappy, and they will eventually fail. I once bought a Elite 150 from a nice lady who didn't change the tranny oil. The tranny on this scooter sounded horrible when it was ridden. She was lucky it had not locked up the rear wheel when she was riding, which would have probably caused a big crash. I bought it for $20 because she didn't want to have the tranny fixed. When I took the transmission apart, it was really in bad shape. Several gears and a few of the bearings were destroyed. I got it going again, but the cost of labor and parts was over $200. All because $0.25 of oil had not been changed...

How was the old gas? Did the gasoline smell old? If the scooter has been sitting over a year or so, the gasoline will turn into a varnish-like stuff. Then you'll have some serious cleaning to do. The gasoline will have evaporated for the most part, leaving a sludgy, molassas like substance in the gas tank, petcock, fuel lines, and the carb. All of these parts will have to be cleaned. This is especially a problem in the carburetor. Thoroughly flush out the gas tank and gas lines with new gas. I've had good luck using the old gas (in small quantities at a time) in my truck.

You also restrict the amount of air out of the engine if you don't replace the exhaust pipe with a bigger (or more free flowing) exhaust pipe. In addition, just changing the carb changes the fuel / air ratio inside the engine. Your engine may or may not like the change. For instance, the new carb could give you more top end power, but also lead to starting problems. Or it may run better at low RPM's and poor at high RPM's. Tuning for best performance can be a lot of work!

Let's Talk vespa scooter

Compression check. If you just acquired the scooter, you should first do a full inspection before you try to get it running. Please see this page on restoration. If this is the case, I'd do a compression check first because it's easy. First check the quantity and condition of the engine oil. Add oil as necessary. I wouldn't change it unless it's terribly dirty. The engine could be bad so you'd waste the oil change. Hook up or purchase a good battery. Leave out the spark plug and crank the scooter for ~5 seconds. This helps to circulate the oil. Let it set for ~15 seconds and do it again. It's not a good idea to continuously crank the starter because it can overheat and wear prematurely. Most scooters need a minimum of 100 psi in compression to run start and properly. Compression should be checked when the engine is warm, but that's kind of hard to do if the scooter is not running. So just hook up a compression gauge and open up the throttle all the way. Crank the scooter until the needle on the compression gague stops moving. This should take no more than 5 seconds. Very roughly, 100-125 psi is good, 125-150 psi is very good, and 150+ psi is great. If you don't have this level of compression then you have bad valves and/or bad piston rings. If you want, you can add a teaspoon or so of oil to the engine through the spark plug hole. Then try the compression test again. If compression is higher, then it's likely you have bad rings. The oil will seal the rings and give you better compression. If compression is the same, then you have bad/misadjusted valves.

My idle is too high. This could be due to a throttle cable that is too tight or misrouted. It could also mean you need to turn the idle screw on the carb counterclockwise ~1/4 turn. A high idle may be due to a vacuum leak. The rubber manifold between the carb and the cylinder head can crack over time. Try starting the engine and squirting some water around the carb, manifold, and vacuum hoses. If the idle decreases, you have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Run at least a pint of gas through to help flush the system. If you don't get a flow then it's likely your petcock is clogged. You have to remove it before you can disassemble and clean it. Carefully reinstall it on the gas tank or you could get a gas leak. Reassemble everything and try to start the scooter. It will take several seconds of cranking to get the gas to work its way from the gas tank to the carburetor.

You also need one that has good brakes and lighting.

The pros of going with newer ones it that the wear and tear on your scooter will be able to hold up longer than if you was to purchase an older outdated machine that would end up needing work sooner than you really want to deal with. There are of course pros and cons to whether you purchase a new one or a used scooter.

If you are skillful at doing your own repairs then going with an older scooter could benefit you if the repairs aren't to disastrous. This could be a good summer project if you have the time, and mechanical know how other wise if you want something that is worry free driving and more modern then definitely go with a newer one. But brand name scooters, like Honda, hold up well even when used. You will definitely be paying a lot more for a new scooter, but if you need it for a reliable ride then it will be a good investment.

Other things to consider when purchasing a scooter is the size/power that you will need. If you need to drive it on the freeway you will definitely need to speak to your local motor vehicle department about certain laws for engine size allowed. Some scooters are able to go up to 80 mph which is really convenient for motorists who need to travel frequently. If you will be going up any hills or carrying passengers you will definitely want to go with more horsepower. Scooters with 300cc's or more are good for this purpose.

For purely recreational purposes, look at smaller motors. These are actually much cheaper anyway, you can grab a quality ride for under $300. These usually max out around 30 mph. Scooters with 50 to 80cc's are perfect for this purpose.

This is just a small portion of information to help you choose the right scooter for you. Make sure to always inspect the credibility of any person or company that you plan on buying from.

Most scooters need a minimum of 100 psi in compression in order to run start and properly. Compression should be checked when the scooter engine is warm. However, that's hard to do if your scooter is not running. So, just hook up a compression gauge and open up the throttle all the way. Crank the scooter until the needle on the compression gauge stops moving. This should take no more than 5 seconds. Very roughly, 100-125 psi is good, 125-150 psi is very good, and 150+ psi is great. If you don't have this level of compression, then you have bad valves and/or bad piston rings. If you want, you can add a teaspoon or so of oil to the engine through the spark plug hole. Then try the compression test again. If compression is higher, then it's likely you have bad rings. The oil will seal the rings and give you better compression. If compression is the same, then you have bad/misadjusted valves.

If you have an electric choke, check it to make sure it works. Check the resistance between the wires - you should see around 10 ohms or less. Measure the length of the choke assembly. This range can often be increased by upgrading the batteries, but this can also add weight to the scooter. Since this range is lower than a traditional full sized mobility scooter, it is important to plan your route with attention to the state of your charge. Modern travel scooters are very reliable and well built. Many people purchase travel scooters because of their ability to be easily dismantled and moved, but use them mostly around the house and neighborhood.

For many a travel scooter is the right choice because it can easily be transported without requiring a separate vehicle mounted lift, offers an adequate weight capacity, has good maneuverability, and does not take up that much space. Riding your gas scooter or electric scooter with control and safety will require practice. Anyone that will be riding the scooter needs to know the proper way to ride his or her scooter. You must learn to stand firm on the scooter but relaxed, keeping your weight between the wheels. Don't stand too close to the front or too far back on the scooter. Gently steer the scooter into your turn without any jerky motions. Adjust your balance to keep the scooter upright. Always approach turns very carefully.

Front brakes provide most of your stopping power. Practice at a safe speed until you are comfortable with how they work.

Ride your scooter in a safe place away from other vehicles and in an area which will not disturb other people or animals. Be sure the riding area is a clean and dry surface. Do not ride in high traffic areas.

My Schwinn Stealth 1000 Electric Scooter Saves Money, Is Easy to Use, Cheap & Great For Environment

If you are an adult who wants to save gas money doing local errands and short local trips under 10 miles round-trip, you might want to consider using an electric scooter, a cheap, hassle free , excellent method of transportation that helps the environment too. I use the Schwinn Stealth 1000 Electric Scooter (Schwinn S-1000) which is perfect for me. Licenses are not required in most places for the Schwinn S-1000 (though I would check locally) and about the only thing you really need is a helmet and to weigh under 250 pounds.

I am a total clutz and the S-1000 is incredibly easy to use as the balance is so good and the ride is super comfortable. It took me 1 hour of practice in an empty lot and I've ridden the scooter ever since, easy as pie. Believe it or not, I prefer to ride in the street in the bike lanes where the ground is smooth rather then going over the cracking sidewalks. The scooter goes up to 15 miles per hour and you can go as far as 15 miles with it till the battery is empty, though I think 10 miles is a more reasonable expectation. Charging the battery is super easy as you just use a small charger connected to any electric outlet in your home and connect it to your scooter. Takes about 10 seconds to plug in and about 6 hours to charge. The battery lasts about 6 months, and costs about $125 for a new one and is very easy to put in requiring no mechanical skills.

What I like about the Schwinn Stealth 1000 Electric Scooter is it's cheap, around $400 or so- it will probably cost you $50 for a bike place to put it together, and requires little maintenance primarily because of its direct drive system. I had an earlier Schwinn Electric Scooter with a Cable drive system, and the cables kept getting tangled up and it was costing me $75 a pop to fix. With the Schwinn S-1000, after about 8 months, I've had no repairs or maintenance charges, which I attribute to its direct drive system.

I would recommend you get your local bike shop to put a small basket on the back of the scooter if you do errands because I don't believe Schwinn Electric Scooters still come with baskets. Most of the time, because the balance of the Stealth 1000 is so good, I just put any packages on the front part of the floorboard where they seem to balance perfectly.

For local travel, the Schwinn Stealth 1000 is the greatest thing since sliced bread too me.

Place a suitable container under the fuel line and draw air on the vacuum line to the petcock (if so equipped) and see how well the gas flows. The flow has to be more than a trickle. It should be steady and fairly substantial. If you get this flow, then you're ok. Run at least a pint of gas through to help flush the system. If you don't get a flow then it's likely your petcock is clogged. You have to remove it to disassemble and clean it. Carefully reinstall it on the gas tank or you could get a gas leak. Reassemble everything and try to start the scooter. It will take several seconds of cranking to get the gas to work its way from the gas tank to the carb. Hopefully it will start now! :>)

Shocked he goes to the cops, to find out that she didn't fall... he just forgot her at the gas station.

Electric Powered Scooter - Is It Better Than A Gas Powered Scooter?

Is an electric powered scooter better than a gas powered one? Well, better is a relative word and both these types of scooters do have their own advantages. An electric powered scooter is a new concept but gaining popularity over the gas powered scooter.

One thing to consider here is the standard fuel or gas powered engine was discovered almost 100 years ago and has been constantly improved by many engineers for better performance with the latest engines controlled by computers. As compared to this the electric powered vehicles are relatively new technology and there is lot more to come.

Electronic powered scooters have their own advantages. Some of them can be listed here like.

1) Lightweight
2) Less noisy
3) Low running and maintenance cost
4) Zero pollution
5) Easy maneuvering even in heavy traffic

With all these things in consideration it seems that they are much better than a gas-powered scooter. But they do have their limitations. The very first limitation is the battery on which the electric powered scooter runs. This needs charging on a regular interval and will be useless where electricity is a big problem.

Also electric powered vehicles are lightweight and may not be as a robust as gas-powered vehicles, hence not suitable for long traveling distances. As the electric powered scooters are still new in the market there are many less number of people who can service such kind of vehicle. That is not the case with standard gas powered scooters. Plenty of resources are easily available when it comes to maintaining a gas-powered vehicle.

Apart from all these factors electric powered scooters are gaining popularity because they are easy to drive for all age groups and are innovative. People like 'innovation and new' things happening in life. Imagine a college teenager owning an electric scooter. It brings him immediate attention amongst his friends and saves him money too. So an electric powered scooter is a great option in the future as a personal vehicle.

You also restrict the amount of air out of the engine if you don't replace the exhaust pipe with a bigger (or more free flowing) exhaust pipe. In addition, just changing the carb changes the fuel / air ratio inside the engine. Your engine may or may not like the change. For instance, the new carb could give you more top end power, but also lead to starting problems. Or it may run better at low RPM's and poor at high RPM's. Tuning for best performance can be a lot of work!
