Buying the Right Electric Scooter

By Jill Pinciotti

If you are shopping for a new electric scooters/a>, then you have probably seen a variety of different types and models. From portable travel scooters that fit in the trunk of a car to larger heavy duty scooters that resemble golf carts, there is a scooter that will fit almost any situation. A good understanding of the different types available will insure that you purchase the one that will best meet your needs.

Travel Scooters

Travel scooters can are available in both 3 and 4 wheel models however, most come in 3 wheel configurations to make them lighter. Travel electric scooters are perfect for the person that is on the road a lot and needs to take their scooter with them. Travel scooters can often be disassembled into smaller, lighter pieces to aid in transport. The overall weight of a travel scooter is also very light. The biggest disadvantage in purchasing a travel scooter is that they generally have a lower weight capacity, and do not come with as many features and options.

3 Wheel Scooters

3 wheel electric scooters are perfect for indoor maneuvering. 3 wheel scooters have a tighter turning radius so they are able to turn sharper and get around corners much easier. So, if you plan on using your mobility scooter a lot indoors then a 3 wheel scooter might be best suited for your needs.

4 Wheel Scooters

4 wheel electric scooters can be used both indoors and outdoors but dont have quite the turning radius that a 3 wheel scooter has. 4 wheel scooters are perfect for outdoor maneuverability where the terrain is not smooth and because of its 4 wheels instead of 3, there is increased stability and traction over the 3 wheel model. Most of the time 4 wheel scooters will also feature larger wheels and a better suspension system just for that purpose. If you will be spending more time driving your electric scooter outdoors then a 4 wheel scooter will definitely benefit you more.

Heavy Duty Scooters

Heavy duty electric scooters generally have higher weight capacities than their counterparts. The weight capacities are usually around 400-500lbs for most HD scooters. On top of having higher weight capacities, heavy duty electric scooters also have wider seats and are constructed a little longer to give more leg room.

Now that you know the types of electric scooters available and their strengths and weaknesses, you can make the most informed decision possible.

2. Changing your roller weights. You can use just slightly heavier rollers for more top speed.
3. Adjusti your valves.
4. Install a new air filter.
5. Change the oil.
6. Put in a new spark plug.
7. Keep your tires at proper inflation levels. This also helps you get better mileage and prevent premature tire wear.
